Have you ever felt the pull of a different career path, a desire to express yourself in a way that truly resonates with your soul? I have. My name is Wojtek, and I'm an artist, designer, and engineer. Throughout my career, I've worn many hats, and I want to share my journey with you, as well as my exciting plans for the future. If you're curious, read on!
Here's how it all started... From a young age, I was fascinated by art. I painted and created, always looking for new ways to express myself. I also had a knack for numbers, so initially, I planned to become an architect - the perfect combination of calculations, design, and art. But life, as it often does, had other plans. I ended up as an engineer, but not in architecture. Instead, I specialized in production engineering, which involved designing processes, ensuring the smooth flow of production lines, and figuring out how to produce more, cheaper, and faster.
But art still called to me. I started designing dies. I would receive a product from a client, envision the perfect box for it, and draw the packaging grid, taking into account the thickness of the cardboard. Based on this grid, knives and scores (blunt knives that crease the material at the folds) were placed in a board, creating a die. That's how boxes are made, if you're curious about the process.
This work was more creative, but it still didn't fully satisfy my artistic desires. So a new plan emerged. I had the opportunity to start working in a large media group as a media planner. My plan was to move from the media house to a creative agency within the group, where I could finally unleash my creativity. I almost succeeded, and for a while, I worked in an agency, but budget constraints prevented a full transition.
After hours, I continued to learn drawing, design, etc., trying to satisfy my creative hunger. Finally, at the age of 30, I decided to quit everything and go to Canada for a 3-month concept art course to finally combine what I loved to do: computer games and drawing. And that's where my adventure with concept art and game dev began. After returning, I started my own company and began working as a freelancer. I worked on the indie game Jupiter Moon: Mecha and several other projects, both large and small.
Ironically, while working as a freelancer, I spent most of my time managing at an art school (which was my main client), rather than art itself. Although the other clients were related to design, I still felt that I was moving away from creating.
The year 2024 came, another year of change. When the cry of creativity and burnout made themselves known, I decided to quit everything, end the collaborations that didn't serve me, and go to the "forest." I focused on developing myself and finding what I want to do next, because what I was doing wasn't bringing the desired results. To achieve this, I stayed at the estate of my business mentor, Michał Wawrzyniak, to, with his help, over the next year, organize my past and future, and learn to act in the present. This allowed me to return to my roots and once again engage in design, as well as slowly return to painting. The result of this is also this website and blog. What will happen next? You'll find out in the next part!
Have thoughts, questions, or want to know how I can help?
Write to me - I'd love to chat!
What are my plans?
Let's start with the blog. I want to create content in three main areas:
I want to help you unlock your creative potential, whether you're an artist, entrepreneur, or simply a curious enthusiast.
Writing is a way for me to organize knowledge and thoughts, so at first, I'll publish a new post once a week. In the future, I hope that content will appear more often, but you have to start with small steps.
In addition to the blog, I will be active on Instagram (@krolikart.design), where you will find short lessons from working in Affinity Designer, presentations of my creative process, tips, and much more.
Soon, a store will appear on the website where you can buy ready-made paintings, illustrations, mini-courses, e-books, and other products that I have planned.
All of this is to convince you to cooperate with me or recommend me in the field of creating a visual identity for your brand, personal or company. Together, we can take your business to the next level and make our surroundings more interesting and beautiful.
In the meantime, I invite you to buy me a small coffee so that I have the strength to write more articles. :)
See you next week!
Every coffee is an energy boost and motivation for me to continue working.
Thanks to your support, I can spend more time creating valuable content for you!
Follow me and stay up-to-date with creative ideas!
